Impact of Exposure to Supercritical Carbon Dioxide on Reservoir Caprocks and Inter-Layers during Sequestration

چکیده
The long-term exposure of rocks to supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) during sequestration creates structural and chemical changes. In turn, these lead changes in the permeability inter-layers caprocks that can alter plume migration behaviour and/or loss sealing efficiency caprocks. This review first surveys experimental studies pore structure mass transport properties interlayers, including novel protocols data analysis methods. These methods provide more accurate measures basic parameters, such as surface area, well new information on network features are essential properly understanding properties. subsequent evolution exposed scCO2 involves a complex coupling geomechanics, geochemistry, processes over different length time scales. simultaneous combination all three factors together is rarely considered this also fully integrated work understand interplay feedback arising between processes. We found it was necessary include coupled obtain truly representative reservoir simulations; otherwise, counter-intuitive effects missed. unexpected greater thin shale layers.

Measurement and Modeling of Acridine Solubility in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide
Supercritical carbon dioxide has gained increasing attention in food and pharmaceutical processing owing to the fact that it is environmentally inexpensive, not flammable, essentially non-toxic, and it has a convenient critical point. Also, it has been attracting much attention in many fields, such as extraction of sensitive materials and pharmaceutical processing and polymerization processes. ...

there is no doubt that human being needs to become integrated with industry and industry needs to be progressed, daily. on the other hand, serious events in industrial units specially in oil industries has been shown that such damages and events are industry related ones. the consequence of such events and damages which resulted in chemical and poisoned explosions and loss of life and property ...
Microbial potential for carbon and nutrient cycling in a geogenic supercritical carbon dioxide reservoir
Microorganisms catalyze carbon cycling and biogeochemical reactions in the deep subsurface and thus may be expected to influence the fate of injected supercritical (sc) CO2 following geological carbon sequestration (GCS). We hypothesized that natural subsurface scCO2 reservoirs, which serve as analogs for the long-term fate of sequestered scCO2 , harbor a 'deep carbonated biosphere' with carbon...
متن کاملSequestration of Carbon Dioxide Emissions
Background The world's oceans represent the largest potential sink for the carbon dioxide (CO 2) produced by human activities (anthropogenic CO 2). Already oceans contain the equivalent of an estimated 140,000 gigatons of CO 2. The ocean's natural carbon transfer processes span of thousands of years and will eventually transfer 80-90 percent of today's man-made CO 2 emissions to the deep ocean....
